Soddy-Daisy commissioners give first reading to two dumpster ordinances after city attorney cites improper trash storage

The Board of Commissioners on April 20 gave unanimous first readings to two ordinances that amend how dumpsters and refuse storage are regulated in Soddy-Daisy.
City Attorney Elliott told the commission the municipal code amendment (Title 17, Section 17-103) responds to repeated observations that "there are several areas in the City where trash is not being set out properly," particularly in concentrated housing areas. He said the city can rely on its police and zoning powers to enforce proper storage.
Commissioners then approved a zoning-ordinance counterpart (Article VIII, Section 824.10) designed to align site-plan and parking rules with the municipal code changes. Both first readings were moved and seconded with unanimous votes.
Both ordinances were presented as first readings and will return for additional readings and a final vote at a later meeting. City Attorney Elliott and staff did not provide specific enforcement timelines at the first reading.
