Chattahoochee County holds public hearings on proposed 8.512 mill rate

Chattahoochee County officials held two public hearings in August on the proposed 2024 millage rate. At a called hearing Aug. 19 and a second hearing Aug. 26, Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver presented a proposed county rate of 8.512 mills and described the digest and five‑year history as public record.
Weaver told the commission that the proposed rate is "basically staying the same as last year" and noted that the county's gross digest increased by roughly $64 million. Coffey added that the tax digest and supporting documents are available to the public for review.
No members of the public spoke against the proposal at either hearing. The work session minutes note that adoption of the millage rate at 8.512 was to be added to the agenda of a called meeting and the Sept. 3 regular meeting for an official vote.
Next steps: the commission added the millage adoption as a voting item to a subsequent meeting agenda; the public record and five‑year digest remain available on request through the Tax Assessor's office.
