County to pass vendor trash‑rate increase to residents on January water bill; FLOST early voting underway

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners in an Oct. 27 work session that GFL has raised residential trash‑collection rates by $2.00 per month and set the cost of an extra container at $14.00 monthly. Weaver said the county will pass the additional charge through to residents beginning on the January water billing cycle and will absorb the cost for the first month.
Weaver explained the vendor cited higher landfill tipping fees as the reason for the increase and said that despite the rise, the county’s rates remain in line with surrounding jurisdictions. Chairman Charles Coffey noted the need to inform residents and affirmed that the decision to pass the charge through does not require a formal vote of the commission at the work session.
Weaver also reminded the public that early voting for the county’s proposed Fire‑Line Occupation Local Sales Tax (FLOST) begins Oct. 14 and that Election Day is Nov. 4 at the Recreation Center; he announced Halloween trick‑or‑treat hours of 6–8 p.m. in the county. Separately he reported that a Friendship Road resurfacing project is scheduled to begin Dec. 1 with an estimated cost of $106,000 and that some road repairs on Manta Road have been completed.
