The Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County voted unanimously Nov. 4 to end its contract with the Fort Benning stray facility, appoint Teresa Williams to the county library board and approve both an economic development sewer grant application and the purchase of a campus vehicle for Public Works/Water.
The motions were introduced and carried during the regular meeting called to order by Chairman Charles Coffey. Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to end the Fort Benning stray facility contract, Commissioner Jason Frost seconded, and the commission voted unanimously to terminate the agreement after determining the county could not meet the contract requirements and would work through the required notice process.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to appoint Teresa Williams to the Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Library Board of Trustees to complete the term that began Dec. 5, 2023 and runs through Dec. 31, 2026; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded and the motion passed unanimously. A written resolution in the meeting record notes the library board has seven at‑large members and lists the appointment term.
The commission also approved a motion to give county staff permission to pursue an economic development grant and sewer application; Commissioner Damon Hoyte moved and Commissioner Frost seconded. The record describes the action as "permission to pursue," and no final grant award or contract was executed at the meeting.
On fleet purchases, Commissioner Timothy Biddle moved and Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded to authorize staff to buy a new Ford Maverick for Public Works/Water. The meeting record includes an invoice listing a 2025 Ford Maverick with a government price of $29,505.00; the commission approved the purchase unanimously.
Throughout the meeting the board approved several sets of minutes from prior meetings and entered an executive session at 9:22 a.m. to discuss legal and land matters; the board reconvened at 9:50 a.m. Chairman Coffey stated the closed discussion fell within the legal exceptions to the open meetings law and that no votes were taken while in executive session.
The commission adjourned at 9:54 a.m. The county manager and staff will carry out the administrative steps tied to each approved item, including notice for the contract termination, formal appointment paperwork for the library board vacancy and follow‑up on the grant application process.
