Mr. Sullivan of Southern Link demonstrated two radio models and described tradeoffs between range and cost. County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission that Muscogee County is the only nearby county currently using the higher‑end system discussed. Commissioners noted the county would still need to retain existing repeaters and antennas as backups.
Commissioner Jason Frost said the priority should be equipping the sheriff and fire departments, but he warned the county must balance safety needs with limited local funds and asked staff to pursue grant funding and inter‑county cooperation on repeaters. Weaver said he would request a Motorola quote and continue seeking grant opportunities and possible arrangements with neighboring Stewart County.
The motion to table the purchase until a revised quote and a called meeting at the next work session carried unanimously.
