Kittitas County Chamber reports film industry growth and outlines Thorp Mill recreation plans

Cory Wright, vice-chairman of the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners, convened a special meeting on July 22 to receive a quarterly update from the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce. Amy McGuffin, the Chamber’s chief executive officer, reported that the film industry is doing well in Kittitas County and that local activity was recently featured in a magazine.
McGuffin said the Chamber’s board asked her to clarify whether the county’s vision for an Executive Director who would report to COG aligns with the Chamber’s expectations. Vice-Chairman Cory Wright described that alignment as intended to provide “accountability and unification.”
McGuffin also provided an update on the Thorp Mill property, saying the Chamber is working on a recreation plan for roughly 20 acres the organization will take over. She asked the commissioners for input on this year’s State of Community report and raised the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States as an event the Chamber would like to mark; she said she was unaware of any funding opportunities for anniversary activities and offered to look for templates other states have used.
Commissioner Brett Wachsmith said he thought it would be important for the county to mark the 250th anniversary and offered to help with planning. No formal motions or votes were recorded during the meeting. The special meeting was adjourned at 2:36 p.m.
