Council pushes for Centennial Boulevard extension to spur development and reduce congestion

During the worksession, Councilmember Travis Kay and others discussed a substantive redesign of Centennial Boulevard to support future growth. Kay said the town should seek to extend Centennial north and "should work on creating it to be 5‑lane with a center turn lane" to open buildable property and provide access for retail and other development.
Staff cautioned the council will need to provide input to the Arizona Department of Transportation on project development design; Kay noted the submitted ADOT application currently shows a design turning west on 7th South, but the town intends to ask ADOT to keep the alignment straight through to Highway 277. Councilmembers discussed pursuing easements across church property for road continuity and utilities, annexing land off Porter and 7th to the west, and taking steps to be proactive about roads, connections and utilities to guide development.
No formal action or vote was recorded. Council indicated next steps include contacting the church about potential easements and continuing coordination with ADOT and property owners as plans evolve.
