On a recommendation following a week-long study at 5th West and 5th South, council discussed installing a 4-way stop at the intersection. The study showed fewer than 1% of motorists exceeded 34 mph at that location. Members said safety and maintaining emergency-vehicle access were priorities and asked that the issue be added to a work session for a broader road plan.
Council also discussed school-zone speed limits. Meeting remarks noted Snowflake’s current school safety zone is 20 mph and that lowering a zone to 15 mph legally requires installing a marked crosswalk and providing a crossing guard at the intersection. Councilmembers suggested that if the town changes one school-zone limit it should consider doing so consistently across all town schools (Snowflake and Taylor) and referred the procedural and enforcement questions to the next shared services meeting for the police department.
No formal motions to change speed limits or to install the 4-way stop were recorded during the meeting; staff was directed to place the traffic topic on a future work session agenda.
