Franklin County Commissioners approved amendments to the county’s Earned Paid Leave and Vacation Policy on Nov. 18 to conform with Maine’s recent changes under LD55, which took effect Sept. 24.
Commissioner Tiffany Baker and county staff explained that LD55 removed the ability for employers to cap earned paid leave at 40 hours for eligible employees; the board discussed implications for part‑time staff and how vacation accrual and rollover would be administered. Commissioners approved language that treats the first 40 hours of vacation used as falling under the earned paid leave law where appropriate.
The motion to adopt the amended policy passed unanimously (Skolfield/Gilbert, 5–0). County staff will update personnel manuals and communicate changes to employees.
