Veterans expenditures, festival report and Salt Pass fencing request highlighted at Lincoln County meeting

Nancy Stafford, County Veteran Service Officer (via phone), presented the FY2021 geographic distribution of VA expenditures and reported Lincoln County’s veteran population in 2021 as 1,248 and total expenditures as $11,277. Stafford also provided an agency update on services available to veterans.
Katie Vigna, representing Back Country Jam, reported that the June music festival in Afton underperformed. She attributed lower-than-expected attendance to website errors, scheduling conflicts with other events, last-minute changes to safe-ride arrangements and difficulty securing volunteers. Vigna said she may reduce some day-band programming and consider paid positions next year to ensure staffing.
Larry Lancaster (via video from Afton), speaking on behalf of himself and Dennis Lancaster, asked the board for a letter of support to petition the State to fence roughly 1 1/8 miles of Salt Pass right-of-way because of repeated cattle-related accidents. Lancaster said he would email a draft letter to commissioners for review by the county attorney. County Engineer Amy Butler recommended the petitioners contact the local engineering district as an additional step.
