Council confirms Tyler's Cove fee corrections, approves refunds and extends county legal services engagement

At its July 2 meeting, the Dorchester County Council confirmed corrected boat slip fees for Tyler's Cove and approved refunds arising from earlier calculation errors, and it formalized an extended engagement with the County Attorney's firm.
Finance Director Karen Tolley asked the Council to confirm retroactive Tyler's Cove boat slip fees as follows: FY24 $262.50; FY25 $312.50; FY26 $362.20. Tolley said calculation errors required $2,250 in refunds for FY24 and FY25 and noted many slips are unusable because of the condition of the boat ramp. The Council acknowledged the refunds and the ramp condition.
Separately, the Council agreed to enter into an engagement letter with MacLeod Law Group, LLC extending the legal-services agreement through FY2026 and approving an hourly rate increase from $225 to $250 for attorneys Andrew C. Meehan, Patrick W. Thomas and Lance M. Young. The engagement formalizes counsel's terms for the coming fiscal year.
The Council also agreed to provide a letter of support for Habitat for Humanity Choptank's MAERDAF grant application for its Home Repair Program; the letter does not obligate county funding.
No additional appropriations for the Tyler's Cove refunds or the legal engagement were approved at the July 2 meeting; funding and refund execution steps will be carried out by Finance and the Clerk's office.
