Dorchester County Council adopts 2021 building, mechanical and plumbing code updates

The Dorchester County Council on June 4 unanimously adopted Bill No. 2024‑5, updating Chapters 65 (Building Code), 102 (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) and 119 (Plumbing) of the Dorchester County Code to align local code language with the 2021 International Building Code, 2021 International Residential Code, the 2021 International Mechanical Code and the State Plumbing Code.
Planning & Zoning Director Susan Webb told the council the update is required to maintain compliance with State of Maryland standards and described the bill as language updates rather than substantive changes to contractor requirements. "Bill No. 2024‑5 is a requirement to be compliant with the State of Maryland and will not affect contractors, as it is an update to the language," Webb said.
Following the public hearing, the council recorded a roll‑call vote on the bill: George L. Pfeffer, Jr. — aye; Mike Detmer — aye; Rob Kramer, Jr. — aye; William V. Nichols — aye; Ricky C. Travers — aye. The minutes do not specify an effective date for the ordinance in this entry.
