Dorchester County approves pickup truck and dump-truck purchases for Public Works

Public Works Director Dave Edwards requested purchase of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma for the landfill from Koons Toyota Arlington at $45,203.00 (no trade-in). Edwards said he selected the Tacoma for improved efficiency, dependability and better fuel mileage.
The Council approved a 2024 Ford F-150 for the Highway Division from Preston Ford at $36,906.20, also a new purchase with no trade-in.
For winter and heavy-weather operations, the Council approved two diesel dump trucks (minimum 1.5-ton capacity) equipped with snow plows and spreaders from Preston Ford for a total of $215,614.40, to be funded from the FY25 Capital Budget Dump Truck Replacement ($215,000) and the FY25 Operating Budget ($614.40). Edwards explained the choice of F-450 and F-550 chassis was driven by budget constraints and a half-ton rating difference between models but said an F-450 should not hinder workflow.
The purchases were approved as part of the FY25 capital budget process; delivery and deployment timelines were not specified at the July 2 meeting.
