Council approves asbestos abatement, Warwick Road repairs piggyback, Cloverdale Road safety changes and appoints Tim Crosby

At its Sept. 17 meeting the Dorchester County Council approved several procurement and road‑safety items and made an appointment to a local board.
Public Works Director Dave Edwards requested and the Council approved awarding asbestos abatement at the County Office Building to Compliance, Construction and Remediation, Inc. for $14,800, funded from the remainder of the FY24 Capital Budget for County Building HVAC. The Council also approved piggybacking on a Maryland Department of Transportation contract with David A. Bramble for Warwick Road improvements (Suicide Bridge Road to Red Haven Road) at a cost of $387,754, to be funded from the FY25 Capital Budget for Infrastructure Repairs and Road Paving.
On a separate safety item, based on a unanimous recommendation from the Traffic Safety Committee reported by Councilman Mike Detmer, the Council approved changing Cloverdale Road from a 25‑mph school‑hours zone to a permanent 25‑mph zone with enhanced markings and authorized installation of a crosswalk near North Dorchester High School. The Council confirmed via poll (3–0) a Letter of Commitment to collaborate with the City of Cambridge on a Cambridge Trail Expansion Plan to connect multiple trails and pedestrian projects. The Council appointed Tim Crosby as Dorchester County’s representative to the Cambridge Waterfront Development Inc. Board; Councilman George L. Pfeffer, Jr. described Crosby as a recognized architect and planner in the County.
Minutes record Councilman Travers abstaining from vouchers tied to Simmons Center Market and a public comment from resident Phil Cecil asking about the Sanitary District dissolution, which Councilman Pfeffer said is expected to be finalized Oct. 19, 2024.
