Council approves parks projects, traffic-safety measures, tower license renewal and committee appointments

The Dorchester County Council on Nov. 19 approved a package of operations and local safety items affecting parks, traffic and county boards.
Parks and recreation: The Council approved the FY2025 Program Open Space Annual Program on the recommendation of Recreation & Parks Director Duc Trieu. Projects include resurfacing tennis courts and converting two courts to pickleball at the Hurlock Athletic Complex, installing a disc golf course at Egypt Park, and work at Colwill Land and Ocean Gateway in Cambridge. The Council approved the program 4-0.
Traffic safety: Per the Traffic Safety Committee recommendations, the Council approved installation of high-visibility signage on a curve near 4958 Williamsburg Church Road (Hurlock) and directed the Sheriff's Office and staff to work with the State Highway Administration as needed. The Council also approved signage and a traffic study and recommended coordination with the Sheriff's Office for Dolby Farm Road, citing a special-needs child in the area. Separately, in response to a public comment, Council President George L. Pfeffer, Jr. said staff will work with the Sheriff's Office to place a radar speed trailer on Cloverdale Road.
Tower license renewal and appointments: The Council approved a third amendment to renew Cellco Partnership's tower license on Greenbriar Road for a five-year term and appointed Mary Losty, Eugene Lauer and Brian Herrmann to the Architectural Committee. Each item passed by recorded 4-0 votes; William V. Nichols was absent.
The Council also presented a commendation to Aubrie Wanex for her submission to the Traffic Safety Committee recommending a permanent 25-mph school zone, additional signage and a crosswalk on Cloverdale Road.
