Dorchester County OKs five-year brownfields tax credit for Packing House project

Finance Director Karen Tolley recommended the county accept the Application for Property Tax Credit for Qualified Brownfields Sites submitted by 411 Dorchester CSP. The council approved the credit, which totals $37,694.97 in County property tax relief over five years. The council also acknowledged the County’s required contribution of 30% of the applicable tax increase to the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Fund (MEDAF), which the minutes record as $34,845.30 over the five-year term.
Councilman Ricky C. Travers moved to approve the request; Councilman Mike Detmer seconded the motion and the measure passed 4-0 (William V. Nichols was absent).
Why it matters: The brownfields tax-credit program is designed to incentivize redevelopment of contaminated or previously developed sites by reducing county property tax liabilities for qualifying projects.
