Dorchester County's Council introduced an amendment Nov. 19 to Chapter 155 (Zoning) to add guest cottages as accessory uses in several zoning districts and to provide for rural event venues either as special exception uses or permitted uses depending on the zoning district. The amendment would also add supplementary use regulations, define related terms, and amend the Table of Permitted Uses by zoning district. Planning & Zoning Director Susan Webb provided background information to the Council.
The proposed change would allow guest cottages as accessory uses in Resource Conservation, Agricultural Conservation, Neighborhood Business and General Business districts, and would provide for rural event venues as a special exception in many rural-residential and agricultural districts and as a permitted use in Neighborhood Business and General Business districts. The Council voted 4-0 to proceed with publication of a public hearing on the proposal; William V. Nichols was absent.
The Council did not adopt the amendment at this meeting; the action was the formal introduction and direction to hold a public hearing so that the community and decision-makers may review and comment on the proposed text changes.
