Dorchester County Council adopts amended FY2026 budget schedule, agrees on conservative goals

The Dorchester County Council on Dec. 3 unanimously approved an amended FY2026 Budget Adoption Schedule to align introduction and adoption dates with the County Budget Preparation and Adoption Dates Charter Amendment and agreed to approach the FY2026 budget conservatively.
Councilman Mike Detmer moved to approve the amended schedule; Councilman Rob Kramer seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. During discussion council members expressed preference for conservative budgeting entering the FY2026 process.
The Council also confirmed interim poll votes taken between meetings: to lift the Dorchester County burn ban (recorded 5‑0) and to accept a $125,000 FFY25 Foster Care Court Improvement Program grant (recorded 4‑0 with one non‑response) that will support the Family Advocacy Clinic. Councilman Pfeffer reported county cash and investments of $42,957,319.30 during the meeting.
