Mercer County awards $962,276 in road contracts, approves utility permit

The Mercer County Commission on May 21 awarded county road construction and chip-seal contracts totaling $962,276.74 and approved a utility permit for work on 64th Avenue SW.
In the meeting in Stanton, Moore Engineering representative Tom Weigel told commissioners that Asphalt Technologies Corporation submitted the low and only bid for the CR 24-00-046 chip-seal project: a base bid of $406,182.75 and an Alternate A bid of $418,641.99. The commission voted unanimously to award the base and alternate work to Asphalt Technologies, a combined award totaling $824,824.74.
Pete Johner of Trotter Construction presented a separate proposal for the Sakakawea Estates Road project with a quote of $137,452. The board approved that proposal unanimously. Together with the Asphalt Technologies award, the two actions total $962,276.74 in contract awards.
Highway Superintendent Elroy Opp also presented Roughrider Utility permit #1771, a boring project on 64th Ave SW about three miles west of Beulah; the commission approved the permit as presented.
Commissioners then approved payment of vouchers and bills totaling $152,202.82, which included vendor payments such as North Central International, LLC ($54,301.72) and Farmers Union Oil Co. ($24,874.00).
The bids and contract approvals will allow county highway work to proceed this season; the board did not record any contingencies or required additional approvals in the minutes. The commission adjourned at 11:20 a.m., and the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 4, 2025, in the Mercer County Government Center courtroom in Stanton.
