Hawkins County Commission approves reappointments, stop signs and multiple budget amendments

The Hawkins County Commission on Dec. 15, 2025, completed a slate of routine but consequential actions, approving reappointments, traffic changes, planning-commission appointments, surplus equipment, budget amendments, and notaries public.
Among the recorded actions, the commission re-appointed Chuck Smith and Orville Armstrong to the Hawkins County Industrial Board for six-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026 (Resolution 2025/12/01). The reappointments were approved by roll call (12 yes, 1 abstain, 1 absent); the minutes record the abstention by Larry Clonce and one absence (Danny Alvis).
The commission approved adding stop signs at the intersection of Tranbarger Hollow Road, Ripley Road and Sensabaugh Hollow Road to create a four-way stop (Resolution 2025/12/02). That measure passed by roll call 13–0 (one absence).
Appointments to the Hawkins County Planning Commission for four-year terms were approved (Resolution 2025/12/04), as was approval to surplus mowers (Resolution 2025/12/05). A General Fund budget amendment (Resolution 2025/12/06) passed with one abstention recorded (Britton); a Highway Capital Projects Fund amendment (Resolution 2025/12/07) passed unanimously by the roll-call vote recorded in the minutes. The commission also approved notaries public (Resolution 2025/12/08) and suspended the rules to consider an out-of-order budget amendment, which was then approved.
Most items were routine approvals reflected in roll-call tallies in the minutes; motions and seconds are recorded for each item. The minutes note that departmental and committee reports were filed with the county clerk, including the Hawkins County Department of Education quarterly revenue and expenditure report for the 2025–2026 first quarter (filed by Matt Hixson, director).
