Council unanimously approves minutes and hears updates on downtown banners and grants

At the July 15 work session the Town Council unanimously approved two sets of meeting minutes, reviewed a proposal for new downtown double banners and heard that staff received 11 façade and 11 landscape grant applications; Bill Baron previewed Lafayette Day activities.
The Town of Port Deposit Council unanimously approved the June 3, 2025 Legislative Meeting minutes and the June 17, 2025 Work Session minutes after motions from Councilman Knight (motion) and seconds by Councilman Berlin and Councilwoman Thiele (respectively). Both votes were recorded as unanimous.
Town Administrator Vicky Via Rinkerman told the council the town is proposing new double banners for 12 downtown street poles and is working with designer Bill Baron and the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce to involve local businesses; staff is obtaining cost estimates. Councilwoman Thiele reiterated a prior suggestion to involve the Chamber in placing a sign in Marina Park directing visitors to downtown, but no action on that sign was taken at the meeting.
Rinkerman also reported the town received 11 façade grant applications and 11 landscape/streetscape applications; staff will complete intake checks before sending applications to the review/grading committee.
Councilman Berlin thanked public works for installing the free library and suggested the town install a sign to let visitors know it is there and contact the artist who painted the Pocket Rock Park sign. Several upcoming community events were announced, including the Community Connecting Us art show 'The Legacy Continues' (July 26–27), a Poker Run on July 28 and Lafayette Day on July 29.
