Owner ordered to return with cleanup plan for unsafe Main Street building

Health Administrative Director Shawn Werner and Environmental Health Specialist Christina Pierini reported on a complaint filed in October 2024 concerning an unsafe, dilapidated building at 5390 Main St., Dubois. The Health Department said it had given the landowner, Rob Slotten, time to remove the building and debris but that no removal had occurred to date.
Slotten said he had tried to reach contractors on April 1, 2025, but lacked funds and may consider selling the property; he said he would like to refurbish the building. In response, the board unanimously directed Slotten to return on May 5, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. with a plan: either a purchase agreement with someone who will buy and remedy the property or a contractor agreement committing to complete the work within six weeks from the May 5 hearing. The motion also required Slotten to clear the right-of-way immediately.
The order is a status hearing directive; the board did not at this meeting impose fines or schedule demolition but set the May 5 compliance hearing to determine next steps.
