Commissioners approve courthouse security door upgrade in 2‑1 vote; authorize administrative changes

County Auditor Sandra L. Morton presented quotes from Astro Security for a Courthouse security door access upgrade at a cost of $9,645 plus a $2,106 annual maintenance fee; commissioners approved the upgrade with authorization not to exceed $12,000 on April 7, 2025. The motion carried 2‑1, with President Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger recording the lone dissent.
Morton also requested raising the county credit card travel limit to $5,000; the commissioners approved the increase unanimously. The board declared numerous county items surplus across departments (including office desks, scanners, printers and grounds equipment) and authorized moving a fireproof cabinet from the Recorder’s Office to Veteran Services. The Recorder was given permission to sell a laminate desk to the highest bidder by the end of the week.
Commissioners also discussed a request from Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter to trade in a 2019 Ford Explorer because of mechanical issues and purchase a 2024 Ford F‑150 using commissary funds. The board reached consensus to proceed with the trade. Custodian Scott Hopf presented a $9,213.88 quote to replace an aluminum soffit at the St. Charles Annex drive‑thru; commissioners gave consensus to proceed pending County Council approval of funding.
The security access vote was the only recorded dissent in the minutes; other administrative measures carried by consensus or unanimous vote.
