Dubois County awards $1.607 million paving contract, approves road‑maintenance procurements

The Dubois County Commissioners approved a $1,607,946.30 contract with Calcar Paving for Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) 25‑01 paving projects and approved several related highway procurements at their April 7 meeting in Jasper.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt presented the CCMG contract and said he would sign the document on the county's behalf after commission approval. Bids opened earlier in the meeting showed Calcar Paving at $1,607,946.30, C&R Construction at $1,619,398.00 and E&B Paving at $1,666,900.00; the commissioners took the bids under advisement and later awarded the contract to Calcar.
Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken reviewed striping needs for roughly 69 miles of roadway across 59 roads and presented procurement quotes for yellow and white road paint and glass beads. The county will purchase an estimated 2,200 gallons of yellow paint (40–55 gallon drums), 440 gallons of white paint (8–55 gallon drums) and about 12,000 pounds (6 tons) of glass beads. Lueken recommended awarding the low quote for glass beads to Potters Industries and awarding paint to Jasper Industrial Supply. Commissioners approved those recommendations.
Wendholt also presented and commissioners approved a Federal‑aid (80%) INDOT/LPA contract for countywide bridge inspections covering 2026–2029. To cover striping costs, Lueken requested a $13,000 transfer of appropriations from Bituminous to Paint; the transfer was approved.
The actions clear the way for project bid openings and contracting steps required to begin 2025 paving work under the CCMG program. Wendholt will sign the approved contracts on behalf of the county.
