Representatives for the Town of Birdseye reported a 2015 study found aging water and wastewater infrastructure and said the Indiana Department of Environmental Management placed the town under a sewer ban early-warning, preventing new connections. The town is pursuing an OCRA grant for $750,000 and a $200,000 loan, leaving an estimated $520,000 gap. Birdseye requested the county allocate $350,000 toward the project.
Commissioner Chad Blessinger said the board's consensus was to support the allocation, contingent on approval by the County Council. Indiana 15 Regional Planning is assisting Birdseye with applications and local planning. Blessinger noted work continues on funding strategies; no final appropriation was made by the commissioners at the meeting, pending County Council action.
