Dubois County wins $1.5 million CCMG paving grant; bids set for April 7

Brent Wendholt, Dubois County highway engineer, told the commissioners the county secured $1,500,000 in Community Crossing Matching Grant (CCMG) funds, covering 75% of a $2,000,000 paving program for 2025. Bids for the paving projects will be opened at the Commissioners’ meeting on April 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Wendholt presented a finalized countywide chip‑seal repair plan and said he would request funding from the County Council to move the projects forward. The board approved the 2024 Annual Operations report for the Highway Department, which noted that Fairgrounds Drive was added to the road mileage inventory.
The grant award and the county plan aim to address winter damage and aging chip seals identified in recent inspections. Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken also reported crews are addressing coal mine reclamation, slide remediation, and work on County Road 700 South; he warned motorists to slow for road crews during repairs.
Bids will be publicly opened on April 7; Wendholt said the county will proceed with the bid process and seek County Council approval of matching funds before contracts are awarded.
