Kenneth "Speedy" LeFevre, the Dubois County Veteran Services Officer, read a prepared letter at the Jan. 21 meeting asking the Commissioners for a change in office hours, a larger, more functional office space, and additional staff to serve the county’s veterans. LeFevre said there are currently approximately 2,035 veterans in Dubois County and urged the board to consider expanded hours and resources.
Daryl Hensley, Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 77, presented national statistics emphasizing the need for additional staff to help process claims. Veteran David Flynn described critical issues affecting area residents and supported the call for flexible or extended office hours so veterans can visit the service office.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger and LeFevre agreed to meet to discuss the issues and return a plan to the board at the next meeting.
