Dubois County Council elects Kluesner president, approves multiple appropriations

At its Jan. 21 meeting the Dubois County Council unanimously elected Michael W. Kluesner president and Ryan Craig vice-president for 2025, approved minutes and several routine appropriations totaling modest operational and program amounts, and agreed to advertise funding for two new night-shift corrections positions.
Michael W. Kluesner was unanimously elected Council President and Ryan Craig was unanimously elected Vice‑President at the Dubois County Council meeting on Jan. 21, 2025. Auditor Sandra L. Morton opened nominations, Sonya Haas nominated Kluesner and Doug Uebelhor nominated Craig; motions to close nominations carried and both officers were elected without objection.
The Council approved the minutes from its Dec. 30, 2024 meeting on a motion by Ryan Craig, seconded by Doug Uebelhor. The body then approved several additional appropriations: $5,724 for training from the Community Transition Program Fund (motion by Alex Hohl; second by Doug Uebelhor); $2,400 to cover increased rent for Purdue Extension Services (motion by Ryan Craig; second by Meredith Voegerl); $2,376.92 from the General Fund Personal Services for the jail budget to cover additional pay for two experienced security officers (motion by Ryan Craig; second by Sonya Haas); $448.08 from Commissioners’ Personal Services for additional benefits for the same hires (motion by Deena Lewis; second by Ryan Craig); and $140 from the Prosecutor’s Other Services for safe school bus cameras (motion by Sonya Haas; second by Meredith Voegerl). All motions carried unanimously.
Community Corrections Director Wyatt Madden sought funding to staff two additional night-shift officers; the Commissioners had created the positions pending funding. Madden discussed using LIT‑CR tax and Opioid Restricted Funds to cover the hires; the Council reached a consensus to advertise funding for the positions and return for formal approval at the February meeting.
The meeting also directed a small review of the Sheriff’s commissary ledger. The Sheriff submitted the report covering July 1–Dec. 31, 2024, and a three‑member review committee — President Kluesner, Ryan Craig and Meredith Voegerl — will inspect receipts and request further detail as needed.
With no further business, Doug Uebelhor moved to adjourn; Alex Hohl seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
