Dubois County awards $558,992 paving contract and approves $93,000 bridge design

The Dubois County Commissioners approved two major highway contracts at their Jan. 21 meeting in Jasper. Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt recommended awarding the low bid for the CCMG 24‑02 hot‑mix paving project to C&R Construction for $558,992.00, and the board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation. Wendholt said the paving work is expected to occur between April 7 and July 18, 2025.
Wendholt also presented a $93,000 contract with American Structurepoint for design and development of rehabilitation work on Bridge #78. County Attorney Gregory Schnarr reviewed the document and the board unanimously approved the contract.
Wendholt reported a petition from residents of Valley View Subdivision in Celestine asking to upgrade their road from chip seal to asphalt; he will review prior meeting minutes and prepare a scoring sheet for the request. The board also discussed winter operations and equipment needs, with Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken reporting heavy salt usage this winter and plans to recruit seasonal help for vegetation control.
The board approved the 2025 hourly equipment rates put forward by Lueken, noting the rates reflect current FEMA figures and exclude operator and material costs. No date was set for the Valley View petition decision; Wendholt will return with scoring and background.
