Dubois County approves highway hire, INDOT paving contract and pickup purchase

The Dubois County Commissioners approved three highway-related items during their Feb. 3 meeting in Jasper: hiring a new truck driver, awarding a paving contract tied to INDOT requirements, and buying a replacement county pickup.
Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken asked the board to hire Kaden Bieker as a truck driver to begin work Feb. 10, 2025; "a motion was made to approve the hire, was duly seconded, and carried unanimously." Lueken also reported a recent workplace injury in which an employee fell through a sander grate, required shoulder surgery and is expected to be out about 12 weeks. The department also completed CPR and AED training with 22 employees participating.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt presented a contract with C&R Construction for the 2024-02 CCMG paving project at INDOT's request; the commissioners approved the contract as presented. Mechanic Max Hopf provided three government-priced quotes for County Truck #111; vendors were Bob Luegers GMC, Sternberg Chevrolet and Uebelhor Chevrolet. Wendholt recommended purchasing the low bid from Uebelhor Chevrolet for a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and the board voted to approve the purchase.
The approvals were routine and carried unanimously. The pickup purchase will be funded from cumulative capital funds, and the paving contract follows INDOT's current contracting form rather than the older Bid Form 96.
