John Kaltenbacher, speaking for the Town of Holland, said the town has not found a site for a proposed dumpster location and invited the Highway Department to a Holland Town Hall meeting to discuss alternatives; he also raised unresolved questions about the AES Solar Park and traffic on roads leading to a battery storage facility.
Randy Bartelt asked how solar batteries will be inspected under proposed legislation (he referenced HB 1173) and how to obtain the "855" fire code, saying he is concerned for schoolchildren’s safety. Laura Marcus also spoke during public comment with broader remarks criticizing the Chinese Communist Party and expressing concern about cultural events.
The comments did not prompt immediate action or formal votes but the commissioners heard the concerns and have previously discussed a moratorium on certain energy storage activities. Highway staff and other county officials were invited by commenters to follow up at local meetings.
