Dubois County approves $1.13M paving contract, schedules bridge work and greenlights several highway contracts

The Dubois County Commissioners approved a series of highway contracts and project plans at their Feb. 2 meeting, including a $1,128,020.75 paving contract and several maintenance and inspection items.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert presented a contract from C&R Construction for the CCMG 2026-01 paving project totaling $1,128,020.75; the commission approved the contract by motion and carried it unanimously. Leffert also presented an addendum to the Crossvine Solar road use agreement, updating contact information for the county and Crossvine Solar, LLC, which the board approved.
Leffert announced the Bridge 78 (CR 600 W over the Patoka River) project manual and plans will be posted online Feb. 5 with a bid opening on March 2, 2026. He also said Bridge 116 (CR 820 E, 0.8 miles north of Schnellville Road) will be closed beginning on or after Feb. 9, 2026, for beam and deck replacement; the closure is expected to last about 4–5 weeks, weather and issues permitting.
The county’s bridge inspection contract for 2026–2029 will be performed by SJCA; Leffert said the next contract is nearly 2.5 times the prior cost because inspection standards have become more stringent, and he warned this could lower some bridge ratings. The board approved an agreement for fuel excise tax refund documentation with Malcon Indiana, Inc. and approved Reclamite (Rejuvtec) pavement preservation treatments proposed at $228,870, subject to County Council funding approval and the board’s prior motion pending that funding.
Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken also requested approval to seek $300,000 in additional appropriations for equipment from the Highway and Highway Restricted funds; the board approved the request to pursue appropriations pending County Council approval.
The approved contracts and scheduled closures position the county to move forward on paving and bridge work in 2026, while the increased inspection costs and proposed preservation program will affect near-term highway budgeting.
