Calhoun County Commission receives $1,000 Alabama Power Foundation Good Roots grant and honors Pleasant Valley volleyball

At the Dec. 19 meeting, the Calhoun County Commission accepted a $1,000 Good Roots Grant from the Alabama Power Foundation. Ms. Jacki Lowry, representing the foundation, presented the check to Commissioner Howell and expressed gratitude for the commission's participation in the environmental initiative. Commissioner Howell said the funds will be used to plant trees at several county parks to enhance their natural beauty.
Commissioner Patterson also presented a proclamation and certificates honoring the Pleasant Valley High School volleyball team for winning the AHSAA 2A state championship. Coach Mann thanked the commissioner for ongoing support of the school's athletes.
During the public comment period, Audrey Maxwell, Tourism Director for the Chamber of Commerce, highlighted holiday attractions across the county, including the Festival of Lights in Oxford and free movie screenings at the Oxford Performing Arts Center, and said an additional event will be announced in January 2025.
