Calhoun County commissioners opened the Nov. 14 meeting with proclamations honoring county residents and officials and closed with appointments and public appreciation.
Commissioner Howell presented a proclamation to Ms. Sharon Newman honoring the legacy of her late husband, Dennis Newman. Commissioner Patterson presented a proclamation recognizing the Jacksonville Christian Academy football team as Alabama Christian Football Association state champions.
State Representative Barbara Boyd and Senator Keith Kelley spoke about County Attorney Gloria Floyd’s career and presented a proclamation recognizing her service; Chairwoman Henderson and Commissioner Wilson also joined in presenting a proclamation on behalf of the commission. Gloria Floyd thanked Dr. Boyd and Senator Kelley and expressed appreciation to the commission for their support during her years as County Attorney. Commissioners and Sheriff Wade offered personal thanks and well wishes.
Administrator Jonathan Gaddy recommended appointing Rose Rivera to fill the unexpired District 2 DHR Board seat vacated by Gloria Floyd; Commissioner Shears moved to appoint Rivera, Commissioner Patterson seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Public commenters including Andy Beavers, Executive Director of Calhoun Cleburne Children’s Center, and Calhoun County CFO Melissia Wood offered thanks and appreciation for Floyd’s service.
Commissioner Howell moved to adjourn, Commissioner Shears seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m. The next meeting was scheduled for Dec. 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
