Calhoun County approves multiple public-nuisance abatements; one case tabled

The Calhoun County Commission on June 27 approved a series of public-nuisance actions after a presentation by Environmental Programs Manager Kraig Mize.
Mize recommended proceeding with abatements on eight properties. During discussion, Jahlese Oliver told the Commission she had a rent-to-own agreement for 152 Foster West Road, had vacated the property and was unable to reach the registered owner, Cesar Cruz. Chairwoman Henderson tabled the item for 152 Foster West Road; the Commission approved abatements for properties numbered 2 through 8 by unanimous voice vote.
Mize also recommended dismissing public-nuisance findings for four properties; those dismissals were approved unanimously after commissioners noted owners had been properly notified but were not present. Separately, Mize recommended declaring six other properties public nuisances; Commissioner Wilson moved and Commissioner Shears seconded, and the declarations passed by unanimous voice vote.
The actions recorded in the minutes included motions to adopt the agenda and minutes earlier in the meeting, and the Commission acted by voice vote on each of the nuisance items. No contested votes or recorded dissents were noted in the minutes. The Commission did not adopt abatements for 152 Foster West Road at this session pending further information from the resident and the registered owner.
