The Gladwin City Council on May 19 approved a package of personnel actions intended to expand in‑house capacity for upcoming projects.
Interim City Manager Kimberly Hines told the council the recommended DPW Director would be an un‑union, administrative position to oversee two large projects and city road work; the council approved creating the position by motion (six ayes, two absent). Hines said the current budget will support the hire.
On parks staffing, Hines reported that long‑time Park Manager Rick Seebeck is retiring and that Sabrina Battjes has been hired as Park Manager with Tyler Cameron as Assistant Park Manager. The council approved making the Park Manager position full‑time for eight months and as‑needed for four months and providing benefits (motion by Gutierrez, supported by Darlington; six ayes, two absent).
Separately, Hines requested an amendment to her interim contract to allow up to 40 hours per week (she said she had been contracted for 24–30 hours/week). The council approved the amendment (five ayes, one nay, two absent).
Why it matters: The new DPW Director position and increasing park staffing capacity are intended to support major upcoming public‑works and park projects. Extending the interim manager’s hours increases the city’s available managerial time while the city searches for a permanent manager.
What’s next: The city will proceed with recruitment and contract language as needed; budget support for the DPW Director was stated as sufficient at the time of the vote.
