Gladwin council approves warrants, event permit and honors retiring police chief

The Gladwin City Council handled routine business on Aug. 4, approving warrants, payroll, event permits and making community announcements. Council approved the warrant batch dated July 22 through Aug. 4, 2025 totaling $516,996.75 and payroll for July 23, 2025 in the amount of $42,769.29; the vote was recorded as seven ayes and one nay.
The council approved the ORV Fun Fest scheduled for Aug. 16, 2025. Mayor Sarah Kile presented a plaque honoring Chief Killian for 24 years of service; the record notes his retirement will be effective Aug. 18, 2025 and that the city intends to seek an internal successor with the hiring process to be posted on the transparency page.
Other items included a public comment from Nancy Bodnar about a Historical Society scrapbook, a report from County Commissioner Alan Donaldson on county budgeting and lake monitoring, reminders about community events (Bon Fire in the Park, fish fry at Columbus Hall), and council reports on recent fairs and local outreach efforts. The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
