Gladwin council approves warrants, returns school tennis courts, accepts police chief retirement and OKs WWTP repair

The Gladwin City Council on Aug. 18 approved routine financial warrants and several administrative actions, returned property to a local school and accepted the police chief’s retirement during a 51-minute meeting at Gladwin City Hall.
Council Member Platt summarized the Ways and Means Committee before Council Member Caffrey moved — and Council Member Darlington seconded — approval of warrants dated Aug. 5–Aug. 18, 2025 totaling $1,294,797.77, payroll for Aug. 6 of $40,057.38 and council payroll of $2,078.54. The measure passed seven to one.
Clerk Marietta Andrist explained that a quitclaim deed will convey property back to Gladwin Community School; Council Member Guiterrez moved and Council Member Darlington seconded approval. The deed, related to a prior grant to improve tennis courts, passed unanimously.
City Clerk Andrist also presented a retirement letter from Police Chief Eric Killian. Council Member Darlington moved and Council Member Crawford seconded acceptance of Killian’s retirement, effective Aug. 18, 2025; the council voted to accept the retirement with regrets.
DPW Director Jeff Graham described needed repairs at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and presented a quote from Hammond Drives & Equipment for $7,450.63 in parts plus $400 shipping. Council Member Guiterrez moved and Council Member Caffrey seconded approval of the quote; the council voted unanimously to authorize the work.
Other items: a request to install a cul-de-sac on Pheasant Run was tabled for later consideration so the design can meet city standards. Treasurer Angela Bigham told the council the city audit is scheduled for the week of Oct. 13, 2025 and said the city’s BS&A software cloud migration go-live date is Dec. 15, 2025 (the system will be down Dec. 11–12 for migration). The meeting adjourned at 5:51 p.m.
