WOSC regents approve multiple updated associate degree plans and certificates

The Western Oklahoma State College Board of Regents approved a slate of updated degree plans and certificates at its June 9 meeting, covering programs in early childhood, child development, kinesiology and exercise science, biology and mathematics, physical science/engineering technology, pre-health tracks, business management, agricultural science and multiple certificate programs.

Regent Rick Vernon moved to approve the updated degree plans as presented by Rachel Beckner, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Regent Dustin Lively seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously in favor (Lively, Vernon, Darby, Lewis yes).

The approved list includes associate degrees in Early Childhood, Child Development (AAS), Health/Physical Education and Recreation (Kinesiology and Exercise Science), Biology and Mathematics, Physical Science/Engineering Technology, Pre-Dental/Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medicine tracks, Business Management, Agriculture Science and Applied Animal Science, Farm & Ranch Management, plus certificates such as Farm and Ranch Management, Agriculture Industries, Animal Health Assistant, Crop Production, Horse Management and Child Development. Specific program codes and attachments were referenced in the agenda materials.

Why it matters: curriculum adjustments affect program requirements, transferability and workforce preparation for students in multiple academic areas. The board approved the consolidated package in one motion rather than separate votes for each program.

Next steps: Academic Affairs will implement the approved curriculum changes and update catalog and advising materials accordingly.
