Boards end joint meeting unanimously after productive discussion

Washington County commissioners and the Plymouth Town Council adjourned their Aug. 28 joint meeting by unanimous voice vote after discussing housing, demolition, recreation, public safety and intergovernmental cooperation; no formal appropriations were adopted.
After roughly two hours of discussion across housing outreach, demolition needs, recreation planning, public-safety concerns and intergovernmental cooperation, Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson moved to adjourn the Washington County Board of Commissioners meeting; Commissioner Ann C. Keyes seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Mayor Brian Roth moved to adjourn Plymouth’s council meeting; Councilwoman Mary Ann Byers seconded and that motion also carried unanimously.
No formal funding appropriations, ordinances or appointments were made during the joint session. Several items were left as directions for staff follow-up: coordinating housing outreach, investigating demolition funding sources, exploring repurposing the old high school campus and providing letters of support for town infrastructure grant applications. The board and council asked staff to report back with concrete proposals and to pursue intergovernmental coordination.
