Planning and Inspections Director Allen Pittman reviewed materials the Planning Board had considered and confirmed the item had undergone the required procedures.
Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson, who said she has traveled Highway 32 for 29 years, described repeatedly dropped cellular service along that stretch and said she looks forward to improved coverage. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes emphasized the importance of reliable service for first responders operating in the area.
Commissioner John C. Spruill moved to approve the special‑use permit; Commissioner Ann C. Keyes seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board’s approval clears the special‑use permitting step required before the tower can be constructed; final engineering, permitting, and any federal or state approvals remain the responsibility of the applicant and involved agencies.
