Deputy chief: Sheriff's Office hiring more deputies but certification delays will slow boost to Creswell presence

At the Oct. 24 joint meeting in Creswell, residents pressed county law enforcement for a larger presence on Main Street and county officials said staffing increases are in progress but limited by training requirements.
"We are working on hiring more deputies but will have to send them to train first to become certified. It is a slow process so please bear with them," Deputy Chief Arlo Norman said, responding to Joel Harris’s request that the town see more enforcement "on Main Street whenever possible." Norman added that some matters are being worked on that he could not elaborate on at the meeting.
Mayor E. Ray Blount and other attendees thanked Deputy Chief Norman and the sheriff’s department for their work. Commissioners and town representatives discussed continued coordination to improve coverage and public safety, but no formal action or timeline for additional patrols was recorded in the meeting minutes.
