Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson asked whether the presentation included children who had no place to be placed; Hardison and Ms. Swett clarified that placement services are a separate program. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes, who said she had worked in the department in the past, expressed support for DSS and asked whether the county intended to hire outside contractors to meet staffing needs. County Manager/County Attorney Curtis Potter asked staff to work with DSS and return to the board with a proposed solution.
The board did not take immediate formal action on DSS staffing beyond directing staff to develop options for future consideration.
