Commissioners authorize contract with Young Williams to provide child support services; approve budget transfers

The Washington County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 4 to allow county staff to negotiate and execute a contract with the law firm Young Williams to provide child support services to the Department of Social Services beginning on or about Jan. 1, 2024.
County Manager/County Attorney Curtis S. Potter introduced the item as an RFP-related recommendation. Commissioner Carol V. Phelps moved to authorize the contract negotiation and execution; Commissioner Julius Walker seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and amendments included in the commissioners’ packet; commissioners approved the transfers and amendments unanimously. Dixon also reminded the board that the office will be closed for the employee Christmas breakfast and noted that date is also the water cutoff date; staff will make manual calls and post notices to reduce late payments.
The board recorded the authorizations and directed staff to finalize contractual documents and incorporate the budget amendments into the county accounting records.
