Washington County prepares for possible Republican runoff, approves election budget amendment

Elections Director Dora Bell told the Washington County Board of Commissioners on April 1 that the county is preparing for a possible Republican runoff in the lieutenant governor vs. auditor contest. Bell said Election Day is May 14 and early voting will begin April 25 with 13 early voting days scheduled.
Bell told commissioners she ordered more than 8,000 ballots amid rising printing costs; County Manager Curtis S. Potter said the county ultimately needed to order about half that number for this primary. Potter and Finance Officer Missy Dixon later presented a draft budget amendment (#24-094) to cover additional election costs, estimated between $17,000 and $20,000.
Commissioner John C. Spruill noted increased printing costs and discussed the projected overrun; the board approved moving forward with the amendment process as presented.
