Charlotte County Board makes appointments, adjusts invoice approvals and BOE secretary pay

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors handled a series of administrative and fiscal actions at its May 14 meeting, including appointments, invoice approvals, and a personnel pay adjustment.
The Board appointed Tim Adams to the Local Board of Building Code Appeals and Richard Hall as the IDA District A representative. Chairman Walter T. Bailey reappointed Supervisor Robert L. Shook to the Piedmont Senior Resources board through the end of 2025 and appointed Supervisor Sherry Tharpe to the Tri-County Community Action Board and the recreation committee. Chairman Bailey named Vice-Chair Hazel Bowman Smith his alternate on the Chief Local Elected Official (CLEO) board; the County Administrator also serves on that board.
On fiscal matters, the Board considered May invoices totaling $514,957.12. Vice-Chair Smith offered a substitute motion to approve the May invoices while excluding payment to Pearson's appraisal until its process was complete; the substitute motion carried. The Board separately approved $11,246.28 in invoices paid after the April meeting and approved FY2025 appropriations totaling $10,000. Administrator Daniel Witt noted the Board of Equalization should have three to seven members; the Board agreed to aim for five members and to appoint them after a May 28 public hearing. The Board voted to keep BOE member pay unchanged and to increase the BOE secretary hourly rate to $15.
The Board also approved a $30.60 building permit refund to May Bell Holcomb and scheduled a special meeting for May 23, 2025 to conduct County Administrator interviews. The meeting adjourned after those items.
