Board begins process to relocate Cullen/Red House precinct to Red House Community Building

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors voted June 11 to begin the process of relocating the Cullen/Red House voting precinct from White Oak Grove Baptist Church to the Red House Community Building.
Glenn Baker, chairman of the county’s Electoral Board, told the board the church site has accessibility limitations, lacks a backup generator, has safety concerns and insufficient exterior lighting. He said the Red House Volunteer Fire Department voted unanimously in May to allow the Electoral Board to use their facility pending supervisor approval.
Vice-Chair Hazel Bowman Smith asked whether relocation would require many voters to drive farther; Baker said the new site would be approximately eight minutes farther for some voters. Supervisor Henry Carwile made the motion, which passed with all members voting yes.
The action begins the relocation process; next steps include whatever formal notices and administrative steps the Electoral Board and county staff must follow under state election law.
