Ambulance Chief Lyndy Gurchiek told the Emergency Services Committee on Nov. 24 that the ambulance service recorded seven missed calls during the month, all occurring while crews were committed to other calls.
Chief Gurchiek reviewed response-time metrics for September: a shortest delay of 18 minutes, a longest delay of 37 minutes and an average delay of 27 minutes. She said year-to-date figures and ward-level response counts are included in the committee packet and that one volunteer paramedic approved by the council will begin training soon.
Chief Gurchiek also described fundraising efforts to support an ambulance purchase. The department is holding a raffle for an autographed guitar donated by Music Villa and autographed by Tim Montana and reported support from the Laurel MT Community Foundation and community fundraisers. "We are working on the fundraising for the ambulance," the chief said, and added the council has approved moving forward with the purchase; staff are preparing the vehicle to be street-ready.
A new volunteer EMT applied and was hired for a full-time opening, Chief Gurchiek said. The committee did not take a formal vote on EMS staffing or the fundraising efforts during the Nov. 24 meeting.
