Planning commission flags $35,000–$50,000 cost to update county zoning regulations

John Arterburn briefed the Chase County Commissioners that the county’s Planning & Zoning Regulations are due for renewal in 2025 and will need updates to incorporate state and federal requirements and local policy changes enacted since the last revision.
Arterburn said the Planning Commission has contacted two consulting firms; one estimated the cost of the update at $35,000–$50,000, and the second firm had not yet responded. The board was informed so it could include the estimated cost in upcoming budgets.
Commissioners did not take final action on funding at the meeting but were advised to plan for the potential expense in the 2025 cycle.
