Parma Heights previews Fright Night, tree lighting and library groundbreaking; mayor reports theatre and HVAC grant reimbursements

Recreation staff and the mayor used the Oct. 15 Parma Heights City Council meeting to preview upcoming community events and report grant activity.
Recreation Director Bacci told council that Parma Heights Frights is scheduled for Nov. 2 and will include a 5K in the Commons. "We have saved the date November 2nd for Parma Heights Frights including the 5K run in the Commons," Bacci said. She said residents preferred more time with Santa, so the city is replacing "Breakfast with Santa" with "Stories with Santa" on Dec. 14 (10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.), with registration opening Dec. 1; a tree lighting is planned for Dec. 1 from 5–6 p.m. Bacci estimated 50–60 participants had registered for the 5K, based on monitoring by the Young Professionals group.
Mayor Gallo reported that Cassidy Theatre restorations are complete and the city is preparing reimbursement requests; he said the Denison Boulevard Community Development Block Grant reimbursement has been submitted and that NOPEC grant funds are being used for HVAC improvements to the gun range and theatre and electrical retrofits at the service garage. The mayor said the city will begin a tree‑planting program in October, with selected trees placed on the city-owned tree lawn and residents notified about planting about a week in advance. He also announced a library groundbreaking at Greenbrier Commons scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting record shows the senior center served or delivered 1,251 meals in the two weeks before the meeting and distributed 19,587 pounds of fresh produce during the prior month.
Safety and service directors flagged operational items related to events: Safety Director Scharschmidt said departments are preparing for large crowds at Fright Night and held active-assailant training at Holy Name High School; Service Director Sepik announced household hazardous-waste pick-up Oct. 26 and a campaign-sign recycling event Nov. 9 at the Service Garage.
Council President Tom Rounds asked if there were questions or comments; none were raised. The announcements position the city to move forward with event logistics, grant reimbursements and a near-term library construction milestone.
